Yoga Bury St Edmunds
Uniting Mind Body and Soul
This morning I woke up and I saluted the sun, I honoured it with my whole being. I opened my heart to the universe humbly through prayer and meditation. I stood tall and strong in warrior pose, here I grounded myself and gained strength.
It is through yoga that I feel that connection… That oneness

ABOUT YOGA
What can Yoga do for me?
The practise of Yoga is a spiritual discipline which has many benefits on, not just the body, but the mind and emotional state as well; it is very nourishing to our soul and can provide deep healing and balance on the inside as well as the outside. Through gentle stretches and breathing the body starts to open and release deep tensions, problems in the body can be managed through yoga and often these problems tend to disappear naturally after practise. The mind is also brought into a place of stillness, as through gentle verbal prompting, we have a strong focus on the breathing during our yoga practise and here the mind becomes much more focused and calm. Stress then is lessened and we take time to forget the outside world and connect to ourselves. The deep diaphragmatic breathing also allows the body to relax and all the muscles begin to soften, enabling us to deepen our postures and gain flexibility. The mind becomes engulfed in the breath and thoughts become slower and a place of stillness is found. The meditation and relaxation at the end of our practise teaches you full body relaxation, here each part of the body is concentrated on and then consciously relaxed through verbal instruction, it is not uncommon for people to fall asleep here or enter a deep place of relaxation referred to as yoga nidra or yogic sleep. Our classes are held in Bury St Edmunds.
Who is Yoga for?
Yoga is for everyone regardless of age or sex (yes boy’s, yoga is not just for girls!) However a certain level of fitness is often required. Please contact me for advice if you are unsure of what class would be suitable. I would always advise a beginner’s class at first and then you can always try a more intermediate class if you feel that would be better for you. I have many Classes running in Bury St Edmunds and I am also available for private sessions in and around the Bury St Edmunds Area. If you are a man looking for a more male dominated class then please check out my class at Zen Combat Fitness in Bury St Edmunds see class Times for more info.
What to Wear to your Yoga Class?
Soft light stretchy clothing such as leggings and jogging bottoms are suitable. Jeans and other restrictive clothing are not suitable. You want to be comfortable and able to move easily. It is advisable to bring something that is warm so that during the relaxation, when the body naturally cools down you can be snug and warm.
What do I Bring to my Yoga Class?
Please bring a Yoga Mat, however mats are available to borrow at first, but once you get into your practise it is nice and much more cleanly to have your own mat. Adequate clothing is needed and often people bring a blanket for the relaxation and meditation at the end, this is optional. A water bottle can be brought to class, however is advisable to drink a little while before or after your yoga practise and not during it unless absolutely necessary.
Should I eat Food before my Yoga Class?
Heavy meals should be avoided at all times before your yoga practise, it is best to eat a meal at least 3 hours before your class. However smoothies or very light snacks such as a piece of fruit can be taken 30mins to an hour before hand.
Can I attend the Yoga Class if I have any Injuries?
If you have an injury often yoga can help with this, however it is extremely important you make your yoga teacher aware of any problems you have so they can advise you how to manage your injury and to avoid further problems. It is important to always listen to your body during your practise so if you feel something isn’t for you then don’t do it. Yoga is very good for back problems, postural problems, hip problems and many other issues. It also has positive impact on mental health, the mind and our emotions. I also provide massage and reiki (energy healing) services in and around Bury St Edmunds which can help relieve pain, tightness and promote relaxation and healing.
Can I practise Yoga during my period?
It is important to listen to your body, a slow gentle practise can be very nourishing at this time of the month. However a more strenuous yoga practise is not advised and practising inversions is not allowed at this time. I will always make this clear during class so people are aware.
Can I attend the Yoga Class if I am pregnant?
If you have been a regular practitioner of yoga then yes during your first trimester you can still attend a normal yoga class. But as your pregnancy progresses then a pre-natal yoga class is advised. There are classes available in Bury St Edmunds. It is extremely important that you make your yoga teacher aware if you are pregnant.
